summer foods that are healthy and taste good

2 Jun

Toeing the line between eating what *tastes* good and the *healthy* choice can be difficult (dreadful), but there are some fanfreakingtastic options that taste delicious and won’t bring about eaters’ remorse shortly thereafter.

I like to be healthy, but I almost always opt for the choices that sound best at that moment (but let’s be reasonable here people). Otherwise, you’ll end up eating it later anyway and then end up pissed you didn’t just have what you wanted in the first place.

The following are a few of my favorite summer food items that 1) taste great are  2) filling and 3) won’t leave you complaining all night long about how you “shouldn’t have eaten that.”

1. Grilled Pineapple Guacamole. This is a great recipe for it, and it’s the perfect summer appetizer. Sweet, salty and creamy all at the same time – what’s not to love? Plus, avocado is full of healthy fats (much like olive oil). Pair with some of these Food Should Taste Good multigrain tortilla chips and, voila, the perfect summer snack. OR set up a taco bar with corn tortillas, black or pinto beans, veggies, cheese and some of this deliciousness!

2. Banana Blueberry Almond Milk Smoothie. I kid you not, the first time I tried one of these (only a few months ago) you could have told me I was drinking a milkshake and I would have believed you 100%. This combination is so simple, yet so delicious. If you’re looking for a refreshing breakfast/snack/dessert that tastes like a treat, try it. I was skeptical too.

3. Banana Oat Pancakes. I am a carb fiend and love anything that could be found in a bakery/at a good brunch place, so this recipe is a healthy, homemade alternative the usual indulgence. Plus, bananas and oats are basically a can’t miss combo no matter what you do with them.

 4. Tumeric Salmon. Tumeric has numerous health benefits associated with it (antioxidant, good for the skin, this could all be bullshit and not make a difference at all but oh well it tastes good), and salmon is a no brainer for a light summer (and yum!) dinner. Here is a recipe for Salmon in a Bengali Mustard/Tumeric sauce. YUM.

5. Watermelon. My ALL-TIME FAVORITE summer snack. I will happily eat a full watermelon in one sitting if I so choose. I’m obsessed. My preferred method of eating is in cubes.
